Aggressive Dog Reasons – Find Out The Circumstances That Incite Your Pet To Behave Unpredictably
Though your dog may look sweet, there may be an aggressive dog inside just waiting to get out. To be able to take on these undesirable behaviors, though, requires you to discover what is triggering the problems to begin with. Triggers of many types can set off aggressive dog behaviors within pets that would otherwise behave as perfect members of the family.
That’s right, your dog can be either Dr. Jekyll or Mr. Hyde and it’s up to you to find out what trigger brings out that unwanted Mr. Hyde, so that you can eliminate it or redirect your dog’s behavior around it.
What are these potential triggers? Have a look at the following list and see if any of these issues brings out the beast in your little beauty:
• Territorial aggression – In this case, an aggressive dog shows threatening behavior toward people who are entering into a space that he or she considers to be his or her own. You might find the paperboy being threatened by your pooch, or your guests being snarled at or even bitten.
• Dominant aggression – An aggressive dog has this issue when he or she bullies the other members of the family or other animals in the house in order to show them that they are lower in the pecking order.
• Fear aggression – An aggressive dog who is acting out of fear will act aggressively out of nervousness and insecurity. If cornered, this dog will commonly try to bite.
• Possessive aggression – this aggressive dog has the most Jekyll/Hyde-like behavior because he or she will seem perfectly content until you try to take food or a toy from him or her.
• Punishment aggression – An aggressive dog with this problem wasn’t usually born this way, but instead became vicious as a result of being mistreated through abuse, too much dominance, or negative reinforcement.
• Pain aggression – In this case the aggressive dog does not have a behavior issue, but is instinctually reacting to pain he or she is suffering. The dog will bite or snarl involuntarily due to illness or injury.
• Predatory aggression

– In this case, the aggressive dog is following his or her tracking and hunting instincts in order to attempt to capture prey. Anything that moves becomes a target for this kind of dog, including joggers, children, small animals, birds, cars, bicycles, and just about anything else that isn’t bolted down.
• Maternal aggression – Aggressive dog behaviors are not uncommon in new mothers of a litter of pups as they instinctively feel the need to protect their babies from any form of threat. Be warned that a mother dog may interpret just about anything as being threatening to her young and may act on this presumption.
Though this certainly isn’t a list of all of the possible reasons that an aggressive dog behavior can develop, it does give you an idea of the primary possibilities. By learning what your dog’s triggers are and gearing your behavior modification training to deal with those issues, you’ll find that you can transform your pooch into the ideal pet.
